The Hare & Hounds Hotel

We stayed at the Hare & Hounds Hotel for a long weekend in the Gamekeepers Cottage. The hotel is lovely and the staff were very friendly and welcoming from the get-go. The hotel is located a very short distance away from Westonbirt Arboretum which is ideal to get out and about especially for nature lovers. The hotel is dog friendly and very clean. Our cottage was quirky and cosy as you might expect from old cottages however still felt spacious. The cottage also had a hot tub which we used as it is very private so you are not overlooked. Tea and coffee were in plentiful supply although a faster boiling kettle wouldn't go amiss. We enjoyed the food at the hotel both within the hotel's restaurant and at Jack Hare's (their pub/bar), and they had spaces within the hotel with a log burning stoves to stay nice and warm. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and would definitely recommend staying here.

The place is amazing, staff is friendly, rooms are really nice and dog friendly. The only thing to point out is that the food is average and could be better.

Bar was pleasant and welcoming. Sat in drawing room for drinks. Izzy on the bar was extremely helpful and pleasant, giving good recommendations.

Lovely place and absolute luxury when it came to having a pot of tea in the lounge area, great seats and and to be welcomed even with muddy boots (hard floors helped) Great place

Had to wait too long for my starter. There were 4 of us & 3 were given their starter at least 10 minutes before mine arrived. Hope if we visit again the kitchen & service get there timing better. Food was lovely & we would recommend.

We popped in for a drink, staff were friendly and a lovely space with various areas to relax. Lovely fireplace and we would booked to stay if they were not fully booked.

Beautiful setting. Beautiful room. Beautiful food. Excellent customer service. Recently spent our 10th wedding anniversary in one of the hot tub rooms. Also had a three course meal. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a romantic break.

Unfortunately house keeping is abysmal, teabags left in teapot from previous, dirt on the floor and stairs. Wet dog smell everywhere. Dog friendly means you have to share your peaceful breakfast with the sound on dogs barking at each other and the smell. Menu was limited overpriced and small portions. Breakfast itself was nice if a bit doggy. Ideally placed for Tetbury etc but recommend The Priory there to eat instead

Menu lacked choice and unfortunately despite the limited menu and high prices the food was not very well cooked. My medium rare steak was more medium to well, when you charge £35 for an 8oz rib eye steak you need to get it right. The Hare & Hounds has amazing potential but unfortunately it fails to deliver.

Everything was great. Good staff and management, you can see that it's run like a tight ship. Even late at night they have night staff that are able to help.

Disappointing visit this time as unable to have a snack/ sandwich early evening, when we didn't need a main meal . Breakfast also disappointing as arrived before we had finished our fruit,and was cold and unappetising.Positive point that staff apologised.

Brought a group of my customers from Perth Western Australia and toured the Cotswolds as part of my Food Tour business. Just emailed to book again for 2025 London & Cotswolds trip! All staff were friendly and helpful. The building is beautifully appointed, with extensive gardens and outdoor areas, rooms were so comfortable and bathrooms well equipped. Best of all for us as food-lovers, was the restaurant with wonderful breakfasts every morning cooked to order and we all loved the dinner we experienced too. Can't wait to come back. A big thanks to all involved during our stay.

One of the best places to stay in the cotswolds, booked the deluxe suite which came with the hot tub in the private garden. Lovely all around and will certainly be willing to come back here again!

Lovely evening here, nice location. All the courses were lovely, and the desert was my favorite. Pleasant music in the background areas nicely decorated we were in the restaurant area. You can stay here too. There was a party going on in the grounds so it was good for larger social occasions.

Not happy. Changed our booking to bank holiday Monday. The establishment calls us to and ask why we didn't attend on a Sunday. Never apologised. Told us the restaurant is closed on the Monday but the pub menu is available and is 'pretty much' the same menu. Absolute nonsense, it is not the same at all. No apology at all. I won't be eating here if the service is like that

Wonderful experience and delightful staff. Everyone was so friendly and eager to greet us every time we walked in the door. The room was clean and well maintained with plenty of room for the four of us. The room was a bit warm, but the hotel supplied a couple of fans to help pull the cool air in from outside in the evenings.

We booked room 21 last January for 5 nights in June. When we arrived our room had been changed to an outside one. Room 21 has lovely views over the garden, we had views of the delivery gates with cars and people passing next to our window. We had to keep the blinds closed when in the room. Although they gave some compensation it ruined our annual holiday and we decided to eat in Tetbury rather than have our meals at the hotel which we have always done in previous years. We will think twice about booking again.

We stayed in a Silkwood Double room on this occasion. The room itself was very good, except for a couple of small issues with the bathroom. The bathroom mirror is set very far back from the front of the sink, so if you need the mirror for brushing teeth, tweezing eyebrows, shaving or applying makeup, it's just something to be aware of. Also, the shower had a fixed overhead shower head - no shower attachment. Not ideal if you don't want to wash your hair every time! However, the bed was comfortable and the room was quiet and clean. The coffee machine and good quality toiletries were a nice touch. We ate in the Beaufort Restaurant on our first evening, then Jack Hare's Bar on the second night. The food is excellent, and the fish & chips with minted peas is absolutely spectacular. (Also, the vegan breakfast is the best I've ever had.) Phenomenal selection of wines at dinner time! Gin & tonic is extremely expensive so we decided to just drink beer & wine on this occasion. We had very good service in both the bar and the restaurant. The grounds and well-tended gardens are idyllic spaces in which to enjoy some peace & quiet, and we'll stay at H&H again.

We had such a wonderful wedding in April at the Hare and Hounds Hotel in Gloucestershire. The staff were fantastic - so professional, polite and accommodating; everyone said how impressed they were with them. The food and wine was brilliant, as was the service. The team went above and beyond for us, putting lots of thought into small details. We used the library for photographs as it rained all day, which created a great backdrop to our photos with the leather chairs, Victorian windows and book-lined walls. A lot of guests stayed at the hotel overnight and all commented on how lovely their rooms were. It was great to have breakfast altogether with our guests the next day before leaving. We would definitely recommend this as a venue for future events.

We loved every minute of our time at this hotel. We recently stayed here for three nights and were impressed by the hospitality from the staff, the great food from the restaurant and breakfast, and our room. We had the Magnolia suite and it was enough space for 2 adults and 2 kids. The kids were comfortable on the sleeper sofa and we had a separate bedroom. We loved having a private courtyard and hot tub! It provided us with relaxing mornings before we set off on our day. Our room was very quiet and comfortable! We were trying to stay more on U.S. time and because we were sleeping in the hotel was able to bring breakfast to our room. We ordered from the menu the night before and the staff was just so nice and helpful! The breakfast was delicious and we were so appreciative. We ate at the restaurant twice and each time it was wonderful! We also had afternoon tea, which again was just great. Overall, we had an excellent stay and we LOVED our time here. I would go back in a second and would recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
